Strictly Personal

Now listening to Captain Beefheart I muse about my world wandering; realising that there is little I miss in the UK and so I am now planning to eventually retire to the Phils. There are a few things I liked, such as the marvellous Stonehenge, and I am now enjoying Bernard Cornwell's novel on audio. However my memories include being able to get up close and personal to the stones. Now a thing entirely of the past, regrettably, due to a combination of vandalism and sheer volume of visitors.

However with its supposed links to the Sun God I was led to like sunrise and sunset. Having often lived and worked close to the equator the rising and setting complete far quicker than in the UK and even while working with the nodding donkeys in the Oman oil fields there was the opportunity to see the beauty of the sun. Hence my travels in search of the odd penny to feed my family have not led to life without seeing things I like. Indeed the fact I have not bothered to visit UK since 1995 must indicate that there is much to satisfy in the rest of the world. But of course one must keep the Brit identity, especially since I remember the Empire! I'm glad some other country has taken on the mantle of world conquest (?) with its concommitant perils.
